The Problems

Today, much of the vast pool of scientific talent, technical resources, and evident opportunities for acquiring knowledge, inventing things, and solving problems is wasted.

Only 10-15% of grant applications are funded (although 60-70% could be) and the mechanism to obtain funds and jobs is also wasteful and easily gamed.

Worse, the majority of data being generated is too idiosyncratic and disconnected from related data to be of any real value.

And worse still, while students are sold on the power and adventure of scientific research most are driven away to other careers due to very poor career prospects.

The underlying cause is the current antiquated, traditional system for funding projects and reviewing data that is simply ill suited for the volume and complexity of today’s scientific research enterprise.

The Solution

Our new system that solves all the problems undermining scientific research today, maximizes liberty and opportunity, facilitates passion and the pursuit of the unexpected, and accelerates discoveries and inventions.

This system is powered by dual engines for supporting any number of researchers and any type of project (basic or applied) in a self-sustaining manner.

A potent revenue-generating electronic infrastructure, called The Universe of Research Niches. Constructed using Cause and Effect relationships, it will continuously evolve by incorporating contributions made by all entities in the scientific research enterprise.

An entrepreneurship-based funding mechanism will ensure that data from every project are not only complete (positive, negative, and/or contrarian) but also automatically validated in different contexts and integrated with related data by peers themselves in the normal course of their research activities.

Our Organization

Assured Science is a 501(3)(c) non-profit that will house the new system and function in between institutions and researchers with minimal changes to the way scientific research is conducted in the current traditional system.

It monetizes all aspects of scientific research and encourages all participating entities/clients to maximize their own benefits or profits.

Its own net revenue will be used to support, advance, and expand the scientific research enterprise, as well as provide public communities cost-effective or free access to scientists and technical resources.

The Impact

With the money already available for scientific research, Assured Science will enhance by 3–5 times the performance of all entities in the scientific research enterprise – funding agencies, scientists, research & educational institutions, science organizations, publishers, commercial companies, service organizations, and the general public.

Basic research and small laboratories, which have historically provided the seeds for most breakthroughs but are struggling badly now, will be expanded and empowered.

Cross-pollination and collaboration will be maximized by removing all barriers between different fields, applied and basic research, and non-commercial and commercial projects.

More and rapid discoveries, inventions, and problem-solving will be enabled by very effective data generation, organization, archiving, exploration, and purposing from the very local level to the most global.

Building the new system

Building the New System

Assured Science will be publicly owned by private and autonomous individuals and organizations, and will be built in a self-sustaining manner.

Initially, it will be financed by selling Ownership Stakes to science-related and science-interested entities for loans of money and valued work or resources. Pioneering stake owners can become Co-Founders and leave a legacy on the structure and function of this highly resourceful and adaptive ecosystem for scientific research.

Subsequently, it will be financed by the electronic infrastructure (The Universe of Research Niches) that will be constructed in a revenue-generating manner from the earliest stages.

The non-profit ownership and finance model of the Green Bay Packers will be adapted to fit the scientific research enterprise. We envision a large number of stakeholders committed to sustaining and expanding the organization in service of all society.
